Obituary of Adrianna Gruber

Paul Gruber, the loving husband of Adrianna Gruber, is saddened to announce her peaceful departure from this world on April 3, 2024. Adrianna, born on May 10, 1937, in Paterson, NJ, was a beacon of inspiration, kindness, and love for all who had the privilege to know her. As the poet Maya Angelou once wrote, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Adrianna had a unique way of making everyone feel cherished and valued.

 

Adrianna, her husband Paul and three children lived in Cambridge, NY for 47 years, enjoying time well spent with an extensive network of friends. Gatherings with family and friends at their home on Coila Road were frequent and festive. During her life in Cambridge, Adrianna spent countless hours volunteering for church activities and as a member of the Cambridge Woman’s Club. She was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Parish.  Her faith was a guiding light in her life, providing her strength in times of challenge and enriching her moments of joy.  Adrianna worked as a physical education teacher for the Stillwater School District for 26 years. For many years, Adrianna also enjoyed buying and selling antiques from her home-based Rambling Manor Antiques.

 

During her younger years, she enjoyed playing tennis and skiing. Her passion for tennis continued past her playing days as she obsessively watched every tournament that she could, often staying up very late until the match was over.  She had a very competitive spirit.

 

Perhaps above all, Adrianna was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother to her family.  Some of her best and most memorable moments were spent on family vacations to the New Jersey shore, a tradition that endured for over 50 years.  Adrianna is survived by her husband Paul Gruber of Saratoga Springs, NY; her daughter Sandy (Jim) Cummings of Doylestown, PA; son Paul Gruber Jr. of Albany, NY; son Larry Gruber (Michele) of East Greenbush, NY and grandchildren Jess, Katie, Devin, Ben and Maddie as well as many nieces and nephews.  Adrianna is also survived by sisters-in-law Barbara (Barry) Winkler and Linda Hoek.

 

Adrianna is preceded in death by her father Bartel Hoek, mother Elizabeth Booth and siblings Bart (Nita) Hoek and Russ Hoek.

 

A visitation for Adrianna will be held on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the St. Patrick’s Church, 17 S. Park St, Cambridge, NY, 12816. Her funeral mass will follow at 1:00 pm.  

 

She will be laid to rest at 10 am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Gerald BH Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871.
