Obituary of Aileen G. Neilson

Aileen G. Neilson, 78, a resident of the Pines in Glens Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 13, 2021 following a lifelong illness. She was born on June 2, 1942 in Fort Edward, NY, to the late Bill and Rita (Gardner) Varney. Aileen was a graduate of Fort Edward High School, after school she attended nursing school. She was employed as a nutritionist, at the Wesley Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs for several years. Aileen was always the voice of reason for her family, providing a calming voice and advice when needed. Her favorite thing to do was sit on her front porch and people watch. You could always find Aileen with a smile on her face, laughing and loving her family and friends. Many trips were taken to Florida enjoying the sunshine, she even spent 6 months in Alaska, but could not stand the darkness. She married Kim Neilson on her beloved front porch in 2016. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many trips were had to Vermont looking for deer and enjoying nature. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Adrian Varney. Survivors include her beloved husband Kim Neilson of Idaho; children Terry Holcomb of Hadley and Wayne Holcomb of FL; grandchildren Desiree Moody and Tearney Jones; great-grandchildren Sabrina, Tyler, Austin, Destinee, David, and Jason Jr. Donation’s in her name may be made to the Pines Nursing Home, 170 Warren St, Glens Falls, NY, 12801. Graveside services for Aileen will be held at 12pm on June 2, 2021 in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY, 12871.
