Obituary of Jerome A. Zahorsky

Jerome (Jay) Zahorsky, 83, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side December 19, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 18, 1937 in Cleveland, OH to the late George and Mildred Zahorsky. He was a parishioner of St. Andrew’s on Superior Ave. and a 1955 graduate of Benectictine High School. As a young adult he helped his parents with their business, working at The Five Sons Cafe and also served in the US Army overseas in France. Jay was a retired Teamster, and a lifelong resident of Cleveland, OH until January 2017 after suffering a stroke and moved to upstate NY to be near his daughter and granddaughters. He loved watching horse racing at Thistledown and traveling to Saratoga’s annual summer meet. He also loved watching the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians games, as well as the Ohio State Buckeyes, and sports in general. Jay was a gentle man with a kind heart, who lived a simple life and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a proud and loving dad to daughter, Laurel (Chris Dorr) and son, Jeffrey (Gladys) Zahorsky; and grandpa to his pride and joy granddaughters, Brianna Tator, 2nd Lieutenant, USAF and Chelsea (Dalton) Kasinger; and loving Uncle to George, Debbie, Maryanne, Karen, Bob, Mike, Mary Kay, Gloria, Eddy, Christopher, Renee and Christine; Survived by brothers, Robert (Ursula), Edward (Nancy) Zahorsky, and sister, Mildred Land. Predeceased by brothers, George (Alyce) and Joseph Zahorsky, and niece Susie. A catholic funeral mass will be held at Notre Dame-Visitation Church in Schuylerville on January 7, 2021 and burial with military honors immediately following at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Jay’s family would like to thank the staff of The Stanton, Home of the Good Shephard-Wilton, and Wesley Health Care Center for their loving and wonderful care our dad while he was with them.
