My heart breaks hearing about Mr. Ellis. He was one of my favorite teachers in high school. He became a colleague when I started working at Chaug. You learn a lot about your teachers after you graduate- in the best way possible. He was always looking out for me at Minnechaug and we had MANY great laughs kickin back at Christopher’s on Friday’s after work. He always wanted to sing with me in my band and so when we play this August...I’ll be singing your favorite “She talks to Angels” just for you Belllis!!! Thank you for inspiring so many kids including myself. You will be so missed. Sending love to Ben’s family and friends. Xoxo

I am so sorry to the entire Ellis family! Mr. Ellis was an amazing teacher of mine and would always reach out whenever the Yankees were doing well, since we were one of the few Yankees fans at Minnechaug. He touched so many students lives and he will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Mr. Ellis.

Coach Ellis and I knew eachother for 2 years from 2007-2009. I rode the bench in JV basketball in West Springfield. He was a huge encouragement to me on and off the court and always had time for me even though he had much better players. His passion for helping young people is one factor that led to me following in his footsteps as a teacher. My deepest condolences to his loved ones and those whose lives he has touched. He was a great man and is clearly going to be missed from the amount of people reaching out since this tragedy. God bless him.

My heart is broken for the entire Ellis family. My love to all of you. Heaven has gained a truly wonderful angel. In Bens short life, he made a positive impact on all that he met. If you were blessed to have Ben as part of your life in any way, your life was better because of it. Ben, you always were such a vibrant young man who embraced each day and spread your infection love of all things in life to those around you. You will be truly missed by many, but most of all by your loving family. I pray that God will give your loving family strength and courage in a time of bereavement. May your loving family take comfort in friendship, prayer, and find peace in the remembrance of the beautiful life you lived. With love Melanie

Mr Ellis, Coach Ellis or “Ben” as I finally got to call him after high school, was an important part of a key few years of my life. Early on, we said hello every day in the halls and joked around about sports. But when Coach took over the golf team, things really took shape. What a fun season we had - going “0-8, going to state” and representing Western Mass in the state finals (somehow!) after going winless in the division. After graduation, we remained friends and shared some great times - usually on the links or out at basketball games or out for pizza. I think I can speak for all of us on the 2010 golf team when I say we will always remember Coach - not only only for the laughs and good times, but also for believing in us, treating us like adults and and helping us grow up. The Minnechaug halls lost someone special. My condolences go out to his family - he is a great guy who will be missed!

I can’t express how much I valued Ben both for the two years I had him as one of his students and for the two years I was able to call him a colleague. I will never forget his unwavering believe in myself and all of his students as well as his kind heart when interacting with my students. Although we didn’t agree on sports there was a great respect between us. The Minnechaug community as well as anyone that crossed paths with Ben is undoubtedly greater for it. Thank you Mr Ellis we will all miss you.

Mr Ellis, you were on the best and most highly respected teachers ive ever had. You were the first teacher to notice that i was struggling with my mental health issues and graciously would extend the time required for turning in projects/homework/etc. You could make even the most boring lessons fun and entertaining. Im so shocked that youre gone so soon, and i regret not coming back to catch up with you after graduating years ago. Rest easy Mr Ellis.
