Obituary of Hannah Eileen McGrouty

Hannah Wilson McGrouty, 96, passed away Friday, February 15th at The Washington Center, Argyle, NY with her loving family by her side.

Born March 15, 1922, in Greenwich, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine Wilson.  Hannah graduated from Greenwich Central school and was married to Herbert G. McGrouty for 62 years until his death on December 31, 2010.  She worked for the Law Firm of VanNess, Russell and Douglas.  Hannah was a member of the Battenkill Country Club, she loved to play golf and watch golf, whether it was on TV or traveling to golf matches.   She also loved to Ski, Travel and Read.

Hannah was an avid fan of Greenwich High School sports, having watched her own sons play football, basketball and baseball, she found joy in watching several generations do the same over the years.  Hannah and Herb were regulars in the stands at all the local games and came to know and love all the kids.  Up to the end Hannah wanted to know the “play by play” of all the games, she was proud of all the students and their successes.  For many years, Hannah & Herb funded a scholarship in their son’s names for a GCS graduating senior that excelled at Athletics.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hannah was predeceased by her beloved sons; Stephen McGrouty in 1971 and Timothy McGrouty in 1975, her brother Frederick Wilson, her sister and best friend Elizabeth Wilson Abbott.

Hannah is survived by, Nieces: Patricia (George) Perkins of Greenwich, Kelly Wilson Johnson of Greenwich, Michelle Bashant of Mahopac, NY.
