Obituary of Phyllis Borden
Phyllis departed on September 23, 2018 at age 91. She was born on July 28, 1927, and was the youngest child of Roland and Isabelle Horton. Born and raised on a small farm in Cutchogue, Long Island, she graduated from Cornell University in 1945. While at Cornell she met and married Leonard Borden. They returned to Len’s family farm in Easton to raise a family and work the farm.
Phyllis worked for Washington County Cooperative Extension for a few years after graduation in 4-H and Home Economics. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress. She was a very active member of the Easton Methodist Church and was a member of the choir for many years. She also enjoyed reading and was a member of the Easton Book Club and used her creative talents as a member of the Easton Rughookers.
She is predeceased by her husband, Leonard, one son, Bruce, and her sister, Jean Walwanis.
She is survived by three sons: Thomas (JoAnne), Tim (Sandra), and Gary (Cindy); four grandchildren: Laura Guzman (Damien), Michael Borden (Lisa), Susan Snook (Chad), and Marcus Borden; two great-grandchildren: Evelyn and Annalise Borden and a niece and nephew and their families.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service is planned for early November.
