Obituary of Leona Dupell

Leona Joan White Dupell, 93, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born July 27, 1925 in Schuylerville, NY she was the daughter of the late Leo and Beatrice Turcotte White.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Levrett George Dupell; 2 sisters, Aletha White Keehlisen and Elinor White Cunningham; and 1 grandson, William Mason.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Ginger Dupell (Donald) Mason of Buffalo and Cathy Dupell (late Michael) Hall of Saratoga Springs; 1 sister, Marjorie White Boyce of Schuylerville; 10 grandchildren, Sarah Mason, Jill Mason (Richard) Wanzenried, D. Adam (Rebecca) Mason, Karey Hall (John) Trimmings, Daniel (Kimberly) Hall, David (Nichol) Hall, Patrick (Kiersten) Hall, Matthew (Jen) Hall, Cynthia (Jamie) Pritchard, and Benjamin (Kristie) Mason Nguyen.  She was also blessed with an abundance of great-grandchildren, Katie, Ellie, Josie, Mason, Andrew, Molly, Laura, Audrey, Julia, Emma, Jack, Sarah Grace, Jake, Sadie, Addison, Jordan, Evan, Lyra, Estelle, Scarlet, Olivia, Meric, Tyler, Troy, Trevor, Richard, Pablo; and several nieces and nephews.

Leona enjoyed being a homemaker, spending time with her family, gardening, and was a baker extaordinaire.  She was a member of St. Clements Church and was involved in the Arimathea Ministry and Backstretch Workers Program.  She delivered Meals on Wheels with her late husband Lev, was involved with the Catholic Charities Christmas Tree Festival from the beginning up until and including last year, was a member of Saratoga Seniors and had worked on their newsletter, volunteered with the Saratoga Hospital Guild, and was involved with the Republican Party and had been a poll worker for several years.

The above list is what Lee Dupell did, but how to tell you who she was? She was deeply connected to family. Therefore, all of us, have always been deeply connected to family. She was thoughtful and kind, to people who came into her space, and animals -except squirrels. She loved flowers, both outside in the garden, and inside when the gardens were sleeping. Lee was well-read and able to discuss what was happening in the world, her small world and the big world - and to defend well her ideas and opinions. She was also deeply spiritual and taught her daughters by words and action that God was, and is, and always will be the foundation of all they are and do.

She loved music and while growing up, the house was filled with music. She had a lovely singing voice and her daughters learned to sing at home, and especially in the car; they have passed that on to the next generations. She was a strict but loving parent, a doting grandparent and great-grandparent. Above all, she was involved. If possible, she attended any event that her progeny were involved in - except ice hockey. Her family has always been aware that she loved us unconditionally. We will miss her always, but her gifts will live on in us because of what she did and who she was. She was funny, strong-willed, and thoughtful.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am Monday, August 6, 2018, at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs.  Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10-11am prior to mass.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  If you have a garden, plant a flower.  Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Saratoga Hospice, Saratoga Catholic Family Services, or a charity of choice.
