Obituary of Ronald C. MacNeil

Ronald C. MacNeil, 77, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly December 28, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital.

He was born August 8, 1940 in Utica, NY, to the late David MacNeil and Mary Parrish.

He grew up in Salem, NY and was a graduate of Salem Washington Academy where he was a varsity athlete, participating in football, track & field and basketball.  He continued his love of sports, playing lacrosse as a student at Siena College.  He graduated from Siena in 1962 with a BS in Economics.  In 1963 he was drafted into the US Army and served his country in the Military Police in bases in Germany.  He was honorably discharged in 1965 and moved back to Salem where he met his future wife Catherine Donohue.  On August 13, 1966, they married and moved to New York City where he worked as an insurance adjuster for Crawford & Company.  After the birth of their first daughter, Midge, they moved back to the area and settled in Greenwich, where they lived happily for the past 50 years. 

Ron began a long career with Telescope Folding Furniture, which led to a successful career in sales. 

He was a lover of the outdoors, enjoyed sports, hunting, and was an avid gardener.  In recent years he added beekeeping to his list of hobbies. 

He is survived by his wife Catherine, their children Margaret, Heather, Erin, Jonathan and Benjamin, son-in-laws Andrew, Todd and Paul and daughter in-law-Nicole; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander, Anna, Grace, Michael, William, Mallory and Noelle; brothers Michael (Carol) MacNeil, Dale, and Allen (Susan) MacNeil; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 3-5pm Monday, January 1, 2018 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St, Greenwich, NY, 12834.  

 

A Mass of a Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 36 Bleeker St, Greenwich, NY, 12834 with the Rev. Martin Fisher officiating

Interment in the Gerald B.H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors will follow the mass at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, St. Joseph’s Church, Greenwich, NY or the Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, 441 State Route 29, Greenwich, NY 12834.
